Fiat car sales has been around since their beginning in Italy, in 1899. Their autos are seen in every corner of the world today. They are the largest auto manufacturer in Italy, and among the top ten largest automakers in the world. Here is a look at the rich history that these vehicles enjoy.

Beginnings

In 1899, Giovanni Agnelli starts the company with a few investors. He remains in charge of this automaker until he dies in 1945. The first vehicle is their 4 HP, also known as the 3 1/2 CV. The first year, they manufacture eight 4.2 horsepower vehicles. The next year, they increase production to sixteen autos.

The 3 1/2 CV featured a water cooled 1.7 liter engine with two cylinders. The design is rear engine, and it can reach a speed of 22 miles per hour (35 kilometers). At present, four of these original eight vehicles are still around.

1908

By 1908, there is a lot of company development. Vehicles are imported into the United States, and motors for aircraft are also produced. Their taxis are also becoming more popular in Europe. Within two years, they become the largest auto manufacturer in Italy. Also in 1910, production in the United States begins.

First World War

By 1917 the United States plant is shut down, due to too many regulations. By then, they are involved in the war effort. Other factories change over to make ambulances and trucks. They also produce aircraft, motors, and machine guns. Shortly after the war, tractor are produced.

Second World War

Between the First and Second World War, there are many political and social changes in Italy. However, through it all, Fiat manages to stay in business. 1925 sees the introduction of the assembly line, and by 1930, they have a huge share of the Italian automotive market.

Later Years

The sixties and seventies see some very productive years, and this company has survived a great deal of changes. Fiat car sales are in many areas of the world today, and are still going strong. There are many reasons to believe that the future will remain bright.
