tablet-woven gallery

Tablet-woven belt, typical of type based on Jerusalem garters of 1700th century. Made from bleached and natural 2/16's linen in double-faced weave, starting with a tubular loop and ending with a fastening cord. This structure allows the weaving of any words or motifs which naturally reverse on the back. The above is a skit on a Biblical saying and states, "You cannot serve both Cod and Salmon". The most popular message is "may love surround you always", but the purchaser usually  invents his/her own.

Size about 11/2 inch wide by a length suitable to purchaser's waist!

Price around $200 (some people need longer ones than others!)

One of the most frequently woven designs. I call these ALPHABELTS for obvious reasons. The earliest had the B, E, L and T in capitals the rest in lower case; this one is a little more subtle and has a rose motif replacing  those four letters. Here two dyed linens are used; any two colours can be chosen, making the message either very easy or mysteriously hard to read. My signature can be seen, reversed, at the top with the year when woven, 98 in this case; both enclosed in a shuttle.

Same size and price as above.
